Sigh

Walking through the slumberous lane,
I stopped at the rusty gate.
The cankerous door standing to embrace me.
Drawn through the alluring darkness,
I hop scotched my way through the labyrinth of dust.
With each palpable step, I went back to the past,
Unraveling many a secret of languid summers;
When salubrious evenings filled the cup of joy.

Mirth reverberating through lace of cobweb
Defying time.
The peeled lime of the wall now speaks of void.

Collapsing on the fraying tapestry, I still felt the warmth;
Once, left by our entwining torsos.
Lying transfixed, I purged myself in my own tears.
If only I could make the lifeless pendulum tick,
If only I could change the sepia,
If only………..
The bygone rose from the ashes of past?

Towering edifices stands elevated,
Its brick and mortar reeks in wealth.
Inside dwells a populace, unburdened of most worries.

The fervent sun and torrid rains,
along with dust of time,
has stripped the facade of its resplendence.

The luster cannot wane,
The artisans are summoned.
Back breaking restoration of glory begins.

Unsteady scaffolding holds crystal ball.
It could be a tale of tomorrow,
or a morbid story bathed in blood, blend into past.

Inside under chandelier's glow,
Fine clothed inhabitants feast,
Consumed in passionate intoxication.

Outside vortex of misfortune strikes,
causing a meteoric fall;
Another lifeless slide into oblivion, but not many rue!!

Autumn's epiphany

Ten springs back,
The mirror reflected honey suckle.
The albatross skin,
knew not whats freckle.

The pearly smile then,
lurched many a heart.
Now its a sallow tale
of saccharined tart.

The mellifluous voice too
is a victim of erosion,
The once cascading tresses,
Is waning in full motion.

The progressive midriff,
is a testimony of plight.
Someday I will beat the scale,
is a dream I delight.

The golden heart,
the razor sharp intellect,
Is a spoof of past,
I wince as I deflect.

What if the milk of human kindness,
gets totally depleted?
Leaving residue of sour yogurt,
completely bacteria infested?

Panchali's five spice passion!

The veridical Yudishtir,
Your near perfect fidelity,
arouses my highbrow.

Bhima,
The bearer of most somatic strength,
puts me in a showboat!

Arjun,my lord master,
Your precision,
makes me salubrious.

Nakul and Sahadev?
The bond slaves,
Heightens my womanly sensibilities.

In annals of passion,
I stand victim of radical envy,
But only I know how I am circumscribed.....

For whom the knell tolled!

The bell chimed
Holy water atoned
Divine flame purged innocent hand.

Deity sat in beatific smile,
Priest chanting hymn.
Satan's countdown began!

Hourglass sifted,
sand of time ticking,
Destiny unfolded.

Lifeless innocence lay in heap
Tears and gore blend.
Mourning drowns cowerdice's gaiety.

Hourglass sifted again,
Crusaders sought salvation,
Allah led them to gyre of misery

Serendipity

To soothe my jangled nerves,
I wandered listlessly.
Crossing the confines of civility,
I found myself in a labyrinth of green.

The dark wood lay in full chaste
The cool breeze caressing.
The foliage kissing each other tenderly.
There were careless whispers, daunting stares;

Under the canopy of darkness,
the dancing glow worms flash with frenzy.
The conspiratory spider fails to snare me.
I gloat over my mortal strength.

In want of a whiff of the pristine air,
I flared my nostril, only to smell toxin.
Looking around for the venomous ivy,
I realized, it was only a stale human breath.

Through the looking glass

Cactus has thorns?
It has florets too and speaks of life amidst arid!
The camel has a hump?
It crosses the hot sands in silence.
The coal is black?
It pervades light and warmth.
The ancient building looks dilapidated?
It speaks of generations that lived.
The wrinkled skin looks hideous?
It speaks of experience.
Yet the ordinary vision sees only the flaw!!

Mayhem

The setting sun did not herald,
unaware of the coming plight
The mother enveloped its tired wings,
On the morrow is fledglings' flight.

Thinking of the coming dawn,
the birdie settled in its nest,
trying to sooth her little ones,
to catch up with some rest.

The darkness seemed unnatural,
the rustling leaves deafening,
the fiery sky was a jolt,
there was a rude awakening.

Haplessly flapping its tired wings,
the mother soared to a safer nook,
losing a combat with raging nature,
the blows,fledglings quietly took.

It was fatal,crashing the nest
down came the babies too,
While many wings flapped in morning sky,
But no flying for the lifeless two!

The light of Knowledge

The lofty mountain taught me sublimity,
The crashing waves of ocean, humility;
The dark woods taught me serenity.

In the aftermath of deluge, I found hope
The tremors of quake, taught me to grope
The tempestuous storm made me scream Nope!

The dying soldier teaches temerity,
The blazing horizon teaches eternity,
The church bell rings divinity.

The newborn child brings in purity,
The careless surrounding speak of levity,
Yet the rising sun testifies humanity.

Zest for life.

The oasis turned out to be a mirage?
The largess of humanity shrunk?
But let no earthy creature ever,
dour your beatific spunk.

The old leaves change hue,
New life evolves
The verdant leave speaks of hope,
On life's axis,one revolves.

In this transitory world,
Change is always permanent;
Accept it with open arms,
Its a winner of life's testament.

The occasional pain that raise its head,
Is a reminder of gash in the bossom,
Ponder momentarily on the dying buds,
Before merging in the thousand blossom.

I Versus U

You are spicy you are sweet
Your happy voice is a pleasant treat,
But when you are hysteric, I retreat!

Sometime cool, sometime haughty,
I can tell, you are naughty,
With you, cant take much liberty!

Sometime twisted sometime straight
Your words of wisdom comes with weight
But there are some, you wish to forget.

If only the clock turned back,
You would dust the memory rack
Fill up with pleasantries, the friendship sack!

Turmoil's undercover

Raindrops staccato pitter patter,
Heartbeat flitter flutter,
Nature dressed in fancy.

Sun and cloud playing peek a boo
Worries and hope joining too,
Drowning me in tranquility.

I seek sanctity in prayer,
Of those I consider near,
Their divinity embalming me.

I close my eyes in the dark,
Cherubic voices hark,
Love's soothing lullaby.

I count my blessings, one two three,
Dejection cascading slowly,
I will scope destiny.

Teardrops of uncertainty
Purges me ever gently,
Emotions dress in poetry.

Inspiration personified.

I never thought I can write any couplet that can rhyme....a cyber friend who I really loved had ignited that feeling. I always need some goading and prodding and very recently Sharmila Dasgupta, a virtual idol's encouragement made my creative juices flowing. Before they dry up in the heat of time, I dedicate these lines to her.....
Guileless but deep
Emotions in heap
Ethereal yet earthy.

Beauty in soul
Humanity in whole
Human yet fairy.

Mother,sister,wife
Qualities in rife
A person noteworthy!

Cerebral News network!

Lessons on makeover.
On a journey,we meet several fellow passengers, who are warm or lukewarm or even outright cold. Most of the time, we assume what they are and thereby making an ass of ourselves!!If we are going through dumps,we feel the whole world is up against us.Right? No.Wrong! its just a reflection of individual persona!
On a sunny day,we mistake a smile as a warm sensation, but that may be just a facade.
So no more assumptions.
When caught in quagmire of doubt, silence is the best road to travel. But take tentative steps, one at a time, almost like an infant, setting out to walk the walks of his life, wobbly but confidence exuding through toothy grin.
Waiting at the signals, the small voice who wakes up once in a while from its slumber, got up to preach. It said to shop in plenty, cart full of brand gratitude. Gratitude has grace, it never fits ill. The voice reprimanded to discard the brand Ego.It attracts disgrace.Gratitude has attitude in it, it sweetens, Ego embitters.
Brand gratitude clothes us with humility, Ego bares us, showing scars.
Wearing gratitude, one will purge his soul, which can breath better.Ego may make you feel vindicated, almost like wearing an ensemble, but a very sheer fabric, that reveals more than concealing flabs and flaws.
The signal turned green....I moved forward,on reaching the precinct I made a beeline to the store selling both the brands,to pick up my new attire.
Firstly I decided for a new makeover of my soul.It underwent toning, cleansing, opening the clogged pores, filled with stale emotions. The Angel poured a good doze of elixir and the soul was on its way to recovery from infection.
I decided to choose a lapel pin brand named SORRY to wear on my GRATITUDE outfit. In the corner lay the brand EGO, in all its razzmatazz.
I winked at it and dashed out, before succumbing to temptation.

Found and lost?

To those who loved and lived together, but lost it somehow!

She was a bright daisy,
Redolent in the open air,
Swaying as the breeze kissed her,
Throwing caution in the air.

There was buzz all day long,
Bees surrounded her,
But her eyes sought the quiet looks,
Of his, who always stood afar.

One fine day, she took upon the task,
dauntless in her style,
She bared all her pent up feelings,
He stood still awhile.

In nature's own jocular way,two hearts,
united, making life a dream,
From almost becoming star crossed lovers,
They conquered all worldly whim.

Many tides later, with much water flown,
The monarchs of heart tied the knot,
But slowly with the eroding time,
The souls started moving apart.

They lived together in one abode,
sharing meals every night,
But the color of daisy started fading,
His heart too,was not as bright.

Many a night,tacit tears,
wet the sleepy pillow,
Two hearts still beating together,
But each missing the other's billow.

Taking each day as it comes,
She holds on her fading hue,
Cherishing the fond memories bygone,
Seeking divine aid, for life anew.

Broken Wings

She had a dream, she is Cinderella,
Her prince will come on a white horse,
Sweeping her away in his arms,
Galloping away from life of worse.

She found a fairy Godmother,
who promised her, her dreams,
Would turn true if she surrenders,
Completely to Her whims.

On a dark night of silence,
Leaving stealthily her poor home,
With pennies and few rags she possessed,
She set out for unknown road to rome.

After covering acres and miles,
The Godmother brought her to a place,
With trembling torso, she realized,
she was now a hopeless case!

Futile attempts to set herself free,
told her shackles were too tight;
She surrendered to her ill fate,
Knowing this was the beginning of her plight.

Suitors came, suitors went,
she was their object of play,
The dream of her prince on a white steed,
did just in lifeless soul, lay.

She often tearfully wondered, with each passing day;
Was there a lot of cost?
To wish for a cozy home and love?
The happily ever after dream was lost!

Metamorphosis....an ugly duckling

In a world of gaiety and laughter,
She looked lost and sad,
But no one looked into her heart,
They thought she was mad!

Her mother often worried,
Her father admonished, brushing off,
She was a wilting flower,
Who could not withstand the rough.

The strong and mighty bullied,
She was victim of their jeer;
''Her color was dark,'' ''she was slow'',
Only ridicules, all around, not one cheer!

With every passing autumn,
The hue of life disappeared,
But in nature's enigmatic ways,
She blossomed, but problems snared.

But one fine day, she looked in her soul,
Found determination and courage,
With mother's blessings and father's love,
She discovered in her a rage.

Armed with knowledge that sagacity brings,
She charged upon the world!
Crumbling all her detractors of yore,
Astounding them with her image of bold.

Gone was the loser, they always thought,
In stepped a beauty queen,
Radiant with charm, wit and fearless heart,
She arrived!only to win!
